Project Goal

To design a modern, cinematic promotional website for the 30th anniversary of The Shawshank Redemption, delivering a memorable experience that resonates with both long-time fans and new audiences.

2. Challenge

The Shawshank Redemption is considered one of the greatest films of all time, yet it lacks a modern digital presence that can engage today’s audiences, especially younger viewers.

The Challenge: Create a responsive website that celebrates the film’s legacy while offering a fresh, immersive experience that matches current UI/UX standards.

Target Audience

- Movie lovers aged 25–45
- Younger generations discovering classic films
- Fans of 90s nostalgia
- Collectors and festival-goers

Design Process

A. Research

- Reviewed film reviews on IMDb, Letterboxd, and Rotten Tomatoes
- Explored the visual language of iconic film posters and past anniversary campaigns
- Studied similar websites (e.g., The Godfather 50th, Pulp Fiction 30th)

B. Information Architecture

- Clear and simple navigation structure
- User flow: Homepage → About the Film → Watch Trailer → Screening Dates → Limited Edition Merchandise
- Emphasis on a story-driven landing page

C. UI Design

- Color Palette: Dark greys and blacks inspired by prison walls and the film’s tone, accented with golds and reds for warmth and drama
- Typography: A blend of cinematic serif for headings and modern sans-serif for readability
- Imagery: High-resolution stills, original posters, custom illustrations
- Style: Dramatic spacing, fade-in transitions, and immersive fullscreen visuals

D. Responsive Design

- Mobile: Scroll-based storytelling, thumb-friendly buttons, optimized video playback
- Tablet: Balanced layout for touch and keyboard users
- Desktop: Cinematic hero sections, immersive trailer modals, and layered depth

5. Project Outcomes

The final design not only commemorates a cinematic masterpiece but also introduces it to a new generation through a seamless and engaging digital experience.

Key Achievements:
- Designed for modern devices
- Delivered an emotionally resonant interface
- Blended nostalgia with usability
